Bernard Binlin Dadié, Man of Letters

About

I am an American Literature scholar investigating Hemingway’s presentation of race. My interest in American constructions of race brought me to the West Coast of Africa on a Fulbright in 2015. Here I embraced the poetry of Bernard Binlin Dadié and now work to translate his poems into English. My experiences as a white, Western expatriate in Cote d’Ivoire taught me new ways to remove my lens of white privilege and white supremacy and enabled me to see differently. These tools now make me a better scholar of race in America.

Projects

I am working on translating the poetry of Bernard Binlin Dadié.

I am working on developing a digital project to host my translations of Dadié and provide a comprehensive bibliography of work by and about Dadié. The beginnings of that project is hosted here in my site on Dadié.

I am working on a book project tentatively titled: The Racial Education of Ernest Hemingway
