Hello!  I am mother to two young children, an emerging scholar, and a recent transplant to Minnesota from New Mexico.  I completed my dissertation at the University of New Mexico in Language, Literacy & Sociocultural Studies in July 2022.  My dissertation research examined the intersections of critical pedagogy and teacher ideologies in public school contexts, as well as the use of study groups as a method for critical teacher professional development.

In August 2022 I started work as Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the department of Education.  I teach Human Diversity (EDUC 1100) and Antiracist and Inclusive Schooling (IESE 1010).  I am passionate about pedagogy, and I am curious about what critical pedagogy looks like at a predominantly White institution (PWI).  My primary question right now is: How do we teach teachers who are predominantly White to practice education that challenges oppression without reinforcing their privilege and also without at the same time reproducing oppressive structures endemic to schooling?  In other words, how can critical pedagogues check White privilege without implicitly teaching the ways of the oppressor?
