ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years agoThanks! And it’s definitely the case that Amazon is a master of being obscure.

ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years agoWe list them individually-adding both ISBNs. We just display them next to each other in our Edelweiss catalogs.

ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years agoB&N display’s TOCs and I believe Amazon UK as well. I was told (by someone at BISG I think that they believe Amazon US uses the TOC internally for Keywords, etc…but hard to say what Amazon truely does and doesn’t do).

ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years agoIf your press publishes split binds for scholarly books, how do you handle both editions in Edelweiss? (Maybe this is more of a general marketing question.) Our sales reps have pretty adamantly told me not to list them individually, but only display them as related products. But Yankee Book Peddler has specifically requested that I do list them separately.

ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years agoThanks, Katie. We’ve also just modified our website feed to be able to display TOCs.
Problem is, when our title mgmt system was modified to enable <contentdetail> TOCs, the implementer didn’t grasp that the content item sequence number (LevelSequenceNumber = b284) is not the same thing as Component Number (ComponentNumber = b289). The former…[Read more]

ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years agoHi @davidrsewell,
We have TOC data in our ONIX feeds and it displays on the book pages on our website and Edelweiss.
It also feeds to CoreSource, so it is available for any partners that will take it, but that is a moving target. Similar to your experience, we have not seen Amazon display the TOC data on book pages.

ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years agoWe have fairly recently started adding TOC information to our book records in our title management system. That is being exported using the ONIX 3 <contentdetail> protocol. I don’t see that Amazon (for example) is making any use of that information. If you have TOC data in the ONIX you distribute, is anyone using it? and how?

Philosophy on Humanities Commons 4 years agoThis mini-essay was published as part of a “dossier” of authors discussing various forms of “queer inhumanisms.” In my piece, I address the relations between queer studies and post/humanist studies through the lens of Michel Foucault’s 1981 interview, “Friendship as a Way of Life.” These relations are tied together in critique but also in various…[Read more]
