José Angel GARCÍA LANDA deposited Ideología de van Dijk in the group

Robert Desmond replied to the topic Metadata: Best practice for Edition info in ONIX? in the discussion
ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 2 months agoAs an aside, the English teacher in me wants to say that the “abridged” adjective is in the wrong place. This is the second iteration of the abridged edition, so my instinct is that you to call it the “2nd abridged edition” because it comes after the “(implied: 1st) abridged edition”.
This has nothing to do, of course, with traditional naming…[Read more]

Krista Coulson replied to the topic Metadata: Best practice for Edition info in ONIX? in the discussion
ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 3 months agoThanks, Jana!
For future reference–we ended up using “2nd Edition” and using the supply chain metadata to connect the new edition ISBNs to the previous, abridged edition ISBNs, and will also be referencing the previous edition in our marketing copy, keywords, etc.

Darshi Arachige deposited Free Will, Libet Experiments, Priming, Breakdown of Bicameral Mind and “Thinking Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman, Penguin (Australia), 2012 in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 4 years, 3 months ago“Thinking Fast and Slow” by Prof. Daniel Kahneman is an excellent book on behavioural economics that also makes a reader wonder about other ideas such as free will, priming and the role of language in his or her daily existence. This review is not meant as an easy read. It switches topics often to convey several ideas within a short essay.

Allan Savage deposited Creed of Life as Realized Through Book Reviews in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 4 years, 3 months agoThis book is a compendium of book reviews reflecting my “Creed of Life.” The fact is that my Creed of Life has been fashioned through these authors, as well as others not mentioned here, whose works were personally important to me and significant to my intellectual development. This list is continually being lengthened as authors, living or dea…[Read more]

Allan Savage deposited Critical Thinkers on the Threshold of Posthumanity in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 4 years, 3 months agoIn this book I contemplate the possibility of posthuman philosophy within the religious and theological schools of thought. In doing this, I do not focus on the traditional philosophical humanism which characterizes the scholastic and neo-scholastic approach within Western philosophy. Rather, I focus on a dehellenized philosophical way of thinking…[Read more]

Martin Janello deposited Philosophy of Happiness: A Basic Primer in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 4 years, 4 months agoA down-to-earth exposition of the work by Martin Janello on the Philosophy of Happiness. It introduces the fundamental notions that happiness is of existential importance for individuals and humanity – and that we each have it within our power to improve our lives and make this a better world in the process. It also spells out that our success in…[Read more]

Martin Janello deposited The Happiness Principle: Why We Need A Personal Philosophy Of Happiness in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 4 years, 4 months agoHappiness is a universal human objective. We all want to be happy. But how we define, pursue, and maintain happiness often seems vague and elusive. That is why we need a personal philosophy of happiness.
This presentation lays out the underlying considerations and examines why other avenues of securing happiness are not succeeding. And it…[Read more]

Jana Faust replied to the topic Metadata: Best practice for Edition info in ONIX? in the discussion
ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 4 months agoMy inclination would be to make it 2nd edition, abridged just to be perfectly clear and to not have to worry about any misunderstandings. But you may be right about the description and supply chain data making the relationship clear.

ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 4 months agoHi all, I’m thinking myself in circles and hoping you might help settle a question about how to represent this situation in standard ONIX metadata.
We are publishing a new edition of a book we have previously published as an original 1st edition and a following 1st edition, abridged. The forthcoming book will be a new edition of the abridged…[Read more]
