CFP: SMT’s Autographs and Archival Documents Interest Group

The Autographs and Archival Documents Interest Group (AAD IG) is calling for proposals to submit as an SMT Integrated Special Session, titled “Autographs and Archival Documents: Revealing the Creative Process.” We are looking to assemble a three-hour session (a panel of 6 papers, each 20 minutes in length, with 10 minutes for Q&A). With this integrated format, the session as a whole would be judged by the SMT Program Committee, but each paper submitted to the session would also be judged individually. Submissions should follow the standard format for SMT proposals. Guidelines can be found here: https://societymusictheory.org/events/cfp2019 We interpret archival documents and creative processes widely, and this theme could include papers that are informed by any of the following:

• Compositional sketch studies
• Studies of theoretical texts
• Studies of performance materials (conducting or performance scores as part of the creative process)
• Work involving historical recordings or drawing on other multimedia documentation
• Digital data, computerized records, or electronic sketches reflecting creative activity

We plan to use the special session as a basis for a peer-reviewed publication (e.g., a roundtable, colloquy, or forum in a journal) to showcase the excellent work being done in our Interest Group. Our internal deadline for submission as part of this special session will be January 1, 2019 (email your proposal to levy AT music DOT ucsb DOT edu). We will aim to respond with decisions about inclusion by January 8, in time to collectively edit and submit the proposal for the special session by the SMT’s January 15 deadline.
