The present text examines Patočka’s texts on the Faust theme, together with Havel’s play Temptation. It seeks inspiration from elaborating the Faust theme for a person who desires an understanding of himself (herself), of others and the world. A comparison of the Faust saga’s various adaptations seeks a version of the Faust legend and its participation in the truth of man, the history of the world and life. The text’s primary purpose is to show not only how the Faust legend can speak to a person at all. But, above all, how this legend can speak to humankind today and whether this speech implies something essential for human education at this time.
