Yasamin Rezai (she/they) is a Ph.D. student at the University of Miami in the Cultural, Literary, and Linguistics Program of the Department of Modern Languages and Literature. She is a social media scholar and the co-founder of Instasociety, an open-access resource led by three doctoral researchers who met at the inaugural Reading #Instapoetry conference hosted by the University of Glasgow, exploring how social media is changing popular culture. Yasamin was a summer Digital Humanities fellow at the University of Miami working on Digital Narratives of the Covid-19 project in 2021. She is currently working on a chapter called “Twitter Data Analysis on #MetooIran” for The #MeToo Movement in Iran: Reporting Sexual Violence and Harassment edited Volume for Bloomsbury Press (forthcoming 2023).
With the cognate in Digital Humanities, Yasamin’s passion and research interest lie at the intersection of media studies and performance studies. As a teaching assistant, she teaches Italian, French, and Persian at the University of Miami and will carry mentored teaching in Social Media and Performance in France and Francophone studies in spring 2022. She is a recently-joined Hastac scholar and also a current UGrow fellow at the center for humanities at the University of Miami. She is the founder of the Rahsaz project, an educational project creating content, conducting interviews on IGTV and podcast platform and offering counseling service designed to help Iranian students find their career paths in the Arts and Humanities and apply to grad school more thoughtfully.
