Tom Grady replied to the topic Business Models for Open Access Books in the discussion
Open Access Books Network on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoHi Sebastian, thanks for this feedback. Hmm I’ll have a chat with my fellow authors and see if we can incorporate what you’ve told us here. Looks like we may have misinterpreted something along the way. This is very useful feedback and a great example of how this network works!
Best wishes,
Tom

Sebastian Nordhoff replied to the topic Book usage and book usage data in the discussion
Open Access Books Network on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoFWIW, our bookdownload figures are available from here as csv: https://github.com/langsci/opendata/blob/master/bookdownloads/langscidownloads.csv
We made some analyses, but they are not really conclusive:

Sebastian Nordhoff replied to the topic Business Models for Open Access Books in the discussion
Open Access Books Network on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoI had a look at @scholtom‘s report. Very nice work. The section on “subscribe-to-open” lists Language Science Press. I am not sure this is 100% correct. LangSci never had closed content, so we could not possibly do a transition, and we can also not threaten to revert back to that. I can see how we ended up there, but the model is slightly…[Read more]

Karsten Schubert deposited Foucaults Verflüssigung. Postfundamentalistische Kritik und normative Institutionentheorie in the group

Karsten Schubert deposited The Challenge of Migration: Is Liberalism the Problem? A Critique of Christoph Menke’s Radical Republicanism in the group
Political Philosophy & Theory on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoI would like to deal with the following questions: What is the reason for the failure of Western states to protect refugees and to welcome migrants? And what is an ad-equate response? One popular hypothesis is that liberalism is the problem. The most elaborate version of this hypothesis comes from Christoph Menke, who employs his radical critique…[Read more]

Karsten Schubert deposited Queerness and Liberal Law: The Tension between Emancipation and Naturalization. Comment on Elisabeth Holzleithner in the group
Political Philosophy & Theory on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoThank you very much for this excellent presentation. In my comment I aim to render more explicit some fundamental tensions or contradictions between legal emancipation and queerness, which are at stake in your description of the legal frameworks for the protection of queers. It thereby reopens the question of the strategic choice between appealing…[Read more]

Karsten Schubert deposited Subjectification through Institutions: The Debate about Freedom in the Works of Foucault in the group
Political Philosophy & Theory on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoOne of the longest lasting problems in the discussion about Foucault has been the problem of freedom. More precisely the question is: How can freedom and resistance be thought and explained in a theory of power and subjectification?
I will address this problem not by talking about Foucault himself, for example by offering a new interpretation of…[Read more] -
Karsten Schubert deposited Freiheit als Kritik. Sozialphilosophie nach Foucault in the group

Karsten Schubert deposited Freedom as critique: Foucault beyond anarchism in the group
Political Philosophy & Theory on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoFoucault’s theory of power and subjectification challenges common concepts of freedom in social philosophy and expands them through the concept of ‘freedom as critique’: Freedom can be defined as the capability to critically reflect one’s own subjectification, and the conditions of possibility for this critical capacity lie in political and soc…[Read more]

Karsten Schubert deposited »Political Correctness« als Sklavenmoral? Zur politischen Theorie der Privilegienkritik in the group
Political Philosophy & Theory on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoRight-wing intellectuals often invoke Nietzsche’s concept of slave morality to underpin their criticism of ‘political correctness’ (‘PC’). This interconnection of Nietzsche’s slave morality and ‘PC’ criticism is correct, as a systematic analysis of their common elements shows, which leads to a new description of ‘PC’ criticism as a defense of…[Read more]

Karsten Schubert deposited „Political Correctness“ als Kern der Politik. Mit Nietzsche gegen die neue Rechte in the group
Political Philosophy & Theory on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoThe article develops the concept of “political judgement” – a new, affirmative understanding of the phenomena which are criticized as “political correctness” by both right-wing and liberal commentators. To that end, it takes the right’s claims, that “political correctness” is slave morality in Nietzsche’s sense seriously and proposes a systematic…[Read more]

Karsten Schubert deposited Freiheit und Institution. Für eine anti-anarchistische Foucault-Lektüre in the group
Political Philosophy & Theory on Humanities Commons 5 years, 4 months agoHow can freedom and resistance be conceived within Foucault’s theory of power and subjectivation? This central question of the interpretation of Foucault’s multi-layered work has been widely discussed and yet not satisfactorily answered. The fact that until today there has been little clarity about the status of freedom in Foucault’s work is also…[Read more]
