As Senior Acquisitions Editor at Northwestern University Press, I acquired and developed around thirty-five books each year in disciplines including critical ethnic studies, literary studies, film and media studies, performance studies, and philosophy. And before my years at Northwestern, I was responsible for copyediting book manuscripts and helping shepherd books through the publication process at the University of Chicago Press. I have worked with hundreds of academic authors on their books over the years, and I am very interested in developmentally editing and copyediting book projects from across the humanities and qualitative social sciences. I have recently developmentally edited book manuscripts in anthropology, history, literary studies, and sociology that are in review or under contract at presses such as: Columbia University Press, Fordham University Press, and NYU Press. And I have recently copyedited book manuscripts for presses and institutions such as: The University of Chicago Press, Haymarket Books, and Zeno X Gallery. Throughout my career in publishing, with the aim of expanding access especially to underrepresented and marginalized groups in the academy, I have been committed to demystifying the academic publishing process. I served as a member of the Association of University Presses Faculty Outreach Committee and helped develop and launch AskUP, a dynamic resource aimed to shed light on each and every stage of the academic publishing process. I have given presentations about how to get published at the American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA), the German Studies Association (GSA), the Modern Language Association (MLA), the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP), the City University of New York (CUNY), Loyola University Chicago, Northwestern University, the University of Toronto, and more. Before my career in publishing, I earned a PhD in philosophy, with a focus on twentieth-century continental philosophy, at the University of Leuven in Belgium. And I taught undergraduate philosophy and interdisciplinary humanities courses at Loyola University Chicago. Blog Posts
