Okay, tried again for the third time. It lost some formatting as usual but this one should indeed reflect the suggestions. -p

Ecocriticism and Environmental Humanities on MLA Commons 11 years agoThat sounds like a great idea! I am piloting a new course I’ve developed called Daoism and the Environment and I am combining the Daodejing with more traditional environmental writing including many Native American poets and writers. This grew out of a paper I did last year for an Ecocriticism panel. We’re in our second week of classes and the…[Read more]

The Teaching of Writing on MLA Commons 11 years agoHi Margaret,
Although I teach primarily for English now, I taught Humanities for several years. In my course Challenges to Modern Culture my students were tasked with each identifying and researching a particular group of people who are disenfranchised in some way. For their final project each student would present their findings to their…[Read more]

East Asian Languages and Literatures after 1900 on MLA Commons 11 years, 1 month agoI would certainly be interested in a panel that dealt with Human/Nature Interface. I am developing a new course in Daoism and the Environment so I am exploring the idea of environmental aspects of the Daodejing and using it as an environmental text. I would consider a paper on that if it is appropriate. I know of course that the Daodejing is not…[Read more]

Prospective Forum: LLC Pre-14th-Century Chinese on MLA Commons 11 years, 3 months agoHi,
If it will help I am willing to volunteer. Primarily I deal with Confucianism and Daoism, considerably earlier than 14th century, but if you need people I’m willing to serve. I already serve on the Contingent Labor for the Profession Committee so I’m not sure how that would affect me serving here. That’s a committee not a forum so I do not…[Read more]

As many of you will have heard, Resolution 2014-1 got 60% of the votes cast but did not reach the minimum of 10% of the total membership required (by a recent rule) in order to be officially adopted. Thank you to all who voted. I attach an op-ed by David Lloyd that to my mind gives a good sense of the meaning of the event:

Thank you to everyone who voted on resolution 2014-1. As you will have heard, the resolution got 60% of the votes in its favor but did not pass because it did not reach the minimum of 10% of the membership required (by a recent rule). This still counts as a major victory. I attach an op-ed by David Lloyd:
