Jana Faust started the topic Chapter abstracts in the discussion
ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 6 months agoHi metadata/ONIX people! I have some questions about chapter abstracts. We have been collecting them for a while and I had been sending them manually to Project MUSE. However, MUSE now tells me that they don’t use them.
Do you send out chapter abstracts? If you do, where do you send them? Do you send them out in ONIX? Firebrand’s TM doesn’t have…[Read more]

Carlos Pittella deposited Marino, a tragedy, part 2—More fragments and dramatis personae in the group
Poetics and Poetry on Humanities Commons 4 years, 7 months agoThere seems to be a continuum between Fernando Pessoa’s metadrama of heteronyms and his strict-sense plays, but this is more hypothesis than theory, because Pessoa’s dramas—notwithstanding the editions of Teatro Estático (2017) and Fausto (2018)—are still largely unknown. Written between 1903–1908, the tragedy of Marino is the earliest of Pessoa’…[Read more]

Samara Rafert started the topic Verification levels in TMM in the discussion
ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 7 months agoI just emailed all this to Joshua Tallent at Firebrand, but thought I’d ask here, too.We are a CDC press and use Title Management to release metadata.
1) How important is it to pass BISG verification–what does this do to help discoverability as opposed to just passing the more basic verifications?
2) I ask because it looks like we can’t pass…[Read more]

Devon Renwick started the topic Fixing Errors in Goodreads in the discussion
ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 9 months agoDoes anyone have knowledge of the best way to fix errors in Goodreads? Right now what we’ve been doing is logging in under personal accounts and posting on their “librarian” group, which is a group of volunteers who correct Goodreads pages.
Goodreads is owned by Amazon but you can’t contact Amazon about Goodreads as far as I’ve tried. This see…[Read more]

Devon Renwick replied to the topic Covers not showing up on Bookshop/indiebound? in the discussion
ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 10 months agoThis is what Jacob at Bookshop said after I sent my latest list of missing covers:
We have had this issue with other publishers but there’s no real pattern to it, it seems kind of scattered. Our development team is working on improving our data ingestion but as you can imagine it’s a large job to perfect. The best explanation we have at the…[Read more]

Devon Renwick replied to the topic Covers not showing up on Bookshop/indiebound? in the discussion
ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 10 months agoSame! According to Ingram, we are only supposed to send Ingram covers via them, and then supposedly Bookshop takes the covers once they are with Ingram/IQ.
Sadly, I see books with covers in IQ not in Bookshop. I now email: jacob.schraer@bookshop.org
I email him a list of the ISBNs and note that they are in IQ and thus Ingram has them and then he…[Read more]

Samara Rafert started the topic Covers not showing up on Bookshop/indiebound? in the discussion
ONIX and Metadata Issues on UP Commons 4 years, 10 months agoI know this is a problem other presses have experienced because there was a discussion of it a few months ago and now I can’t find the thread. But many, many of our covers are not showing up on Bookshop or IndieBound. IndieBound lets publishers manually upload cover images and Bookshop says to send them via their web form, but I wonder if anyone…[Read more]
