Teaching SIG on ARLISNA Commons 2 years, 11 months agoHey Christine! I would second what Carla-Mae and Lora have said. I would also add that these types of workshops are relevant to the business of libraries in a variety of ways. Engaged or active learning experiences (like the ones you’ve described) are a fundamentally important pathway for learning. They are also important manifestations of…[Read more]

Teaching SIG on ARLISNA Commons 2 years, 11 months agoI think these kinds of workshops are a great idea for the library. They draw students in and help them feel less intimidated by the library. “The library of the future” is innovative, and that includes unconventional activities. Some students feel uncomfortable coming to the staff and asking questions. Having informal workshops, or mind…[Read more]

It’s…[Read more]

Teaching SIG on ARLISNA Commons 2 years, 11 months agoHi librarian hive mind. I was wondering how many other librarians, esp. in art & design schools and universities, put on “fun” workshops for their students and/or faculty. If so, do you get any pushback from administration because it’s not specifically research-related? How do you justify it to those who object? At Columbus College of Art & Design…[Read more]

Northwest Chapter on ARLISNA Commons 2 years, 12 months agoHi Vanessa,
As this has become the way that NW Chapter members can communicate, I think that we will follow the same conventions that we did with the NW listserv. In other words, my opinion (as NW chapter communications officer), you can post it here. Or, if it’s easier, you can post a short message linking to the job posting on the ECUAD web…[Read more]
