Looks like our membership is growing—this is very exciting!
I’m still learning MLA Commons, but it looks like only administrators have access to the Announcements page. If you want to share information, please post it to the blog or email me and I can post it to the Announcements page (sdonohue at cocc dot edu).Stacey

Common Core Standards Initiative Discussion Group on MLA Commons 12 years, 8 months agoThank you for initiating this conversation. Coordinated sessions at the national convention, with high school instructors, is a good first step, and one that the MLA has already planned, I believe. Several goals […]

I’d love to hear from others about this, too. In my current position, I have 20% research time, as do my colleagues; this means that Fridays are meeting-free with the intent of allowing everyone a day of focused research, writing, coding, etc. (depending on the project). I have to do my purportedly “non-job” related research and writing outside of standard working hours in this job.
-
Yes, that’s my case too. My boss allows me to make time for research related to my job, but any projects not directly related have to be done outside of work.
-
For now, I’m trying to do a little every day early in the morning, but I find the super slow pace frustrating. This month I’m going to try something different and give myself a little extra time on weekends to work on my projects. I wonder how others negotiate writing/research time into their contracts.

Alt-Academics on MLA Commons 13 years agoI uploaded my slides and audio as separate files through SlideShare; once you’ve uploaded your slides it gives you the option of adding audio, and you can then add an mp3 file to it. Maybe that’s an option?

Correction: I’ve added a bulletin board style “forum” to the Two Year College Discussion Group (looks like we had one last year but it was not “active”). If you’d prefer to have a discussion there instead of on the blog, that’s another tool.
