Paula Curtis replied to the topic Lightning Class Presentations in the discussion
East Asia DH on Humanities Commons 7 years, 9 months agoI also admit I went “oh man, only 5 minutes?!” when I first read your post! I think it’s a great way to get them workshopping their ideas, though, especially to get more of a low-stakes presentation feel over a general class discussion about their progress. Molly Des Jardin started the topic Lightning Class Presentations in the discussion
East Asia DH on Humanities Commons 7 years, 9 months agoYesterday I had my students do 5-minute talks about their final projects, with 5-minute Q&A between each. This is becoming much more common, especially at DH…[Read more]

LLC Japanese to 1900 on MLA Commons 8 years, 1 month agoI just received notification that I was elected to the executive committee of the forum LLC Japanese to 1900. Thanks to everyone who supported my nomination. Since this is last minute, I am not sure if I will be able to make it to NY, but I will try my best. Do we have a LLC Japanese to 1900 business meeting scheduled?

Global & Transnational Studies on Humanities Commons 8 years, 1 month agoThe terms ‘fandom’, ‘fan’, and even ‘fan studies’ appear to be, at first glance, self- evident. But considered in the context of both fan cultures and scholarship outside the English language-centered West, we begin to see the assumptions that underlie them. Whether we are talking about Japanese fans of manga and anime (somewhat codified it…[Read more]
