Jonathan Best deposited Digital Social Space? Interpreting Digital Action and Behavior for Today’s Churches in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 7 years, 9 months agoThe internet has changed the ways human beings connect and understand one another. Through the use of social media, people find themselves immersed in a digital environment consisting of various practices and behaviors. As Christianity continues to negotiate the often tricky relationship it has with digital experience, what philosophical and…[Read more]

Martin Boehnert deposited Linguistisch-philosophische Untersuchungen zu Plausibilität: Über kommunikative Grundmuster bei der Entstehung von wissenschaftlichen Tatsachen in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 7 years, 10 months agoPlausibilität spielt in allen Wissenschaftskulturen eine gewichtige Rolle – ob implizit oder explizit.

Rebecca Ruth Gould posted an update in the group
The Commons Room on Humanities Commons 7 years, 10 months agoIt appears that files cannot be edited once they are accepted into the core repository. Is that correct? Can adjustments be made so that files can be edited? Thanks again, Rebecca
-
Hi Rebecca, during a brief ‘provisional’ period, before the item is officially published, depositors can edit their deposit to make any corrections. (There should be a small green “edit” button beside the item’s status.) After that, you can send us an email if anything needs correcting. (More info here: https://hcommons-staging.org/core/faq/.)

Rebecca Ruth Gould posted an update in the group
The Commons Room on Humanities Commons 7 years, 10 months agoHi, it would be great if we could view more than 20 HC groups on one page as it can take a long time to scroll through the full list. I would prefer up to 100/page. Also would be great to sort by groups not a member of vs. a member of and public vs. private. Thanks, Rebecca
-
Thanks for these suggestions! We’re planning on making some changes to the interface in the coming months. In the interim, we should be able to implement a filter for public vs private sooner. There’s a filter already for “My Groups” (of which you’re a member) and “All Groups.” Would you want to see a different option there?

Rebecca Ruth Gould deposited “Punishing Violent Thoughts: Islamic Dissent and Thoreauvian Disobedience in post-9/11 America” in the group
Political Philosophy & Theory on Humanities Commons 7 years, 10 months agoAmerican Muslims increasingly negotiate their relation to a government that is suspicious of Islam, yet which recognizes them as rights-bearing citizens, within a culture they claim as their own. To better understand how the post-9/11 state is reshaping American Islam, I examine the case of Muslim American dissident Tarek Mehanna, sentenced to…[Read more]

Michael Miller deposited Abraham Abulafia’s Mystical Theology of the Divine Name and its Philosophical Revision in Walter Benjamin in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 7 years, 10 months agoThe thirteenth century kabbalist Abraham Abulafia held Hebrew to be the divine language, designed by God as an ontological aspect of reality. Through meditating on and deconstructing names into their letters, one could then engage in the process of reunifying reality into the primordial Name of God, the Tetragrammaton. This paper offers an…[Read more]

Michael Miller deposited Kaplan and Wittgenstein: Atheism, Phenomenology and the use of language in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 7 years, 10 months agoThe attempts of Mordecai Kaplan and Ludwig Wittgenstein at reforming Jewish theology and analytic philosophy respectively share some important traits. While Kaplan’s scientifically respectable “atheistic” Judaism sought to reinterpret theological principles in line with a modern-day materialist vision of the cosmos, Wittgenstein’s reducti…[Read more]

José Angel GARCÍA LANDA deposited Derrida, ‘Limited Inc.’, Normativity in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 7 years, 11 months agoThis note criticises some equivocations and ambivalent notions in the writings of Derrida, especially ‘Limited Inc’ and ‘De la grammatologie’, as regards the notions of norm, intention, system, center, consciousness, writing, speech act and literal meaning. Derrida is shown to both have his cake and eat it, using his own text as a paradoxical…[Read more]

Sérgio Dias Branco deposited Conversations: The Journal of Cavellian Studies, no. 5 in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 7 years, 11 months agoPolitics seems bound up with questions of the ordinary and everyday as opposed to the extraordinary. This may be a Cavellian way of articulating the problem of political praxis, i.e., the point at which theory “becomes” action, but notice, at least in Cavell-speak, which way the trajectory flows. The Wittgensteinian charge to bring language bac…[Read more]

José Angel GARCÍA LANDA deposited Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Nihilism, and Arbitrariness in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 7 years, 11 months agoThis is a brief note criticising some anti-foundationalist and anti-essentialist semiotic assumptions in Nietzsche and Wittgenstein, from the standpoint of a classical structuralist perspective which (following Saussure) sees the play of differences as crucially constitutive of a system of positive terms.
