History on Humanities Commons 4 years, 8 months agoFor centuries, continental Europeans have come to Wales for numerous reasons. During the Romantic period some came seeking a rural idyll, whilst others in the Victorian era travelled as industrial spies, and during times of war many refugees escaped to Wales to find shelter from persecution. Not only have continental Europeans left their traces…[Read more]

Elton Barker deposited ON SPACE, PLACE, AND FORM IN HERODOTUS’ HISTORIES in the group
History on Humanities Commons 4 years, 8 months agoThis article reflects on how our own technological developments can help us see Herodotus’ archetype of historical inquiry in a new light. It explores various aspects of place in the Histories—as spaces that are lived, constructed, and relational—to show how and why the idea of place can be such a powerful means for linking information and under…[Read more]

Alexandre Roberts replied to the topic displaying bibliographical information of deposited publications on profile page in the discussion
Feedback and Feature Requests on Humanities Commons 4 years, 9 months agoGreat, thank you! It occurs to me that a technically much simpler solution that could be quickly implemented (before eventually implementing some kind of Zotero-style output based on the metadata) would be simply to allow users to fill in an optional field (of formatted text, e.g., to allow for italics) that would be added after the…[Read more]

Alexandre Roberts started the topic displaying bibliographical information of deposited publications on profile page in the discussion
Feedback and Feature Requests on Humanities Commons 4 years, 9 months agoWould it be possible to implement a way to easily display bibliographic information (e.g., journal, vol, year, pages for a journal article) on profiles immediately after each CORE deposit? This could be based on the deposit’s metadata by default (following a standard bibliographic style, e.g., Chicago, which could then be changed), with the option…[Read more]

Louis Mosar replied to the topic flexible embargo period in the discussion
Feedback and Feature Requests on Humanities Commons 4 years, 9 months agoI second that!
Related to that, it would also be nice to have an ‘restricted access’ option for an item, in which you can choose who to give access to it upon request. I feel comfortable providing complete open access to finished products, but I would also like to have a place (and in fact my funder asks this, for now, I am planning to use Open…[Read more]

Alexandre Roberts started the topic flexible embargo period in the discussion
Feedback and Feature Requests on Humanities Commons 4 years, 9 months agoIt would be great to have total flexibility in setting the embargo period on articles by selection the exact date of the end of the embargo period when uploading a publication. (This feature is available and intuitively implemented on Zenodo.)

Sben Korsh started the topic Improving the discussion board features in the discussion
Feedback and Feature Requests on Humanities Commons 4 years, 9 months agoI think the discussion boards could be improved by bringing in features that a lot of other contemporary discussion boards have — things like a “quote” feature, a reaction or “like” button, even an emoji menu — would help draw people back to the discussion.
This is coming from my perspective having just brought on a group of about 25 ear…[Read more]

Rebecca Ruth Gould started the topic Linking to social media on profile in the discussion
Feedback and Feature Requests on Humanities Commons 4 years, 9 months agoWe have the ability to link to a number of social media on our profile, but I want to suggest the addition of a few more: YouTube (for those with YouTube channels); Medium (the blogging site); Instagram. Also the ability to link to a newsletter site such as Substack or Revue would be great if there is space.

Julia Mattes deposited Pandemic Pictures The Justinian Plague and the Black Death in Art in the group
History on Humanities Commons 4 years, 9 months agoThe Plague of Justinian began in 541 and quickly spread over the area of the late antique Mediterranean. There it continued in more than a dozen plague waves until the middle of the 8th century, causing much suffering and a great number of deaths.
