My tenure clock, as they say now, has been running at Washington College of Maryland since 1975.  I’m published in Early American literature, nineteenth-century American literature, African-American literature, and theory. My spouse is teaching at Penn State and I’ve been commuting during fall, spring, and frequently summer semesters between central Pennsylvania and the Eastern Shore of Maryland since 2005.

I have four children.

The Latest Early American Literature, a book named after a journal article I published in Early American Literature was published in 2016. “Poe’s Difference” a book-length manuscript  proposing some advantages of (re)classifying Poe as an early American writer is finished and is under review.
