Rashed Al-Sa`ed, a university Professor in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, is currently a senior lecturer and research scholar at Birzeit University (BZU). His research focuses on planning and development of innovative technologies for water and wastewater treatment, bioresource recovery towards a green economy, WASH services and systems, IWRM under conditions of water scarcity, biosolids, and reclaimed water use in agricultural irrigation. He developed and coordinated several R&D projects in water and sanitation for bioresource recovery, pollution prevention, water productivity and efficiency, sustainability of agricultural water resources, water diplomacy, and conflict resolution of transboundary water resources. Before joining academia, he lived and worked for 15 years in Environmental Consulting Firms in Germany. Prof. Al-Sa`ed is co-founder and former director of the Institute of Environmental and Water Studies (IEWS), headed two MSc programs in water and environmental engineering and sciences, supervised 5 Ph.D. and more than 100 MSc students, and published more than 100 papers and book chapters. He is a certified engineer and junior advisor for the Palestinian Water Authority and several national and international NGOs on water governance, WASH systems, and practices. Prof. Al-Sa`ed, a co-founder, acted formerly as a technical advisor for Global Environmental Services (GES) firm, Palestine.
