I have never taught a gen ed course, but the book I use for my Hispanic Studies students is Bernard Reilly’s The Medieval Spains. Cambridge UP, 1993. There may be something newer out, though.

Medieval Hispanic Languages, Literatures, and Cultures on MLA Commons 8 years, 11 months agoWhat would you assign in English to give 100-level gen ed students a broad yet critical (think Howard Zinn’s People’s History) overview of medieval Iberian cultural history? I have good material for Latin America and Modern Spain, but nothing for premodernity (or whatever you want to call it). Thanks! David
