Nathaniel Mitchell deposited The Volta: A Galant Gesture of Culmination in the group
Society for Music Theory (SMT) on Humanities Commons 5 years, 2 months agoThis article presents an overview of a new pre-cadential schema in the galant style: the Volta. SMT Post-1945 Music Analysis Interest Group on Humanities Commons 5 years, 2 months agoThanks, Bob. Yes, we thought about this, too. I borrowed the quorum percentage from the Pop Music IG, which makes more sense for them since their membership is large (of course, nothing compares to our FB page membership 😀 )
We could definitely increase ours to 20%-25%, granted people vote and stay engaged with the IG issues.

Robert Hasegawa replied to the topic Please comment on revised by-laws in the discussion
SMT Post-1945 Music Analysis Interest Group on Humanities Commons 5 years, 2 months agoThanks for these revised by-laws, Tara and Laura! I suggested one small wording change and also added a comment about the quorum… it occurs to me that a 5% quorum in a group of this size could easily mean just two or three people! I don’t feel strongly about this if there’s a good reason to stick with 5%, but perhaps a larger quorum of 20%-25%…[Read more]

I realize it may be too busy right now to expect replies, but I’ll try:
Does anyone know of any good examples from pop for teaching contour segments (csegs)? I’m teaching a kind of generalized hybridized ‘music after 1900’ course that combines pop, jazz, and Western art music (Wam). Wanted to try this topic,…[Read more]
