About

I hail from the sun city of El Paso, TX. I grew up crossing the border from Juárez to El Paso every day to go to school. I am a proud fronteriza and a proud scholar of multiethnic literature, specifically literature centered on migration and immigration on the Mexico-United States borderland. My interests and research are highly interdisciplinary, which matches the academic trajectory of my life. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with my BA in English, I taught middle school Language Arts with Teach for America in San Antonio, where I strove to teach and use texts that reflected my students’ ethnic and identity backgrounds—bridging my love of literature with teaching. Yet, it was during these years of teaching that I first began grappling with other questions about our public education system, primarily those dealing with technology, access, and social justice. Once I started my MA English journey with UT San Antonio, I dived further into developing my research spaces and interests, delving into research alongside social scientists and ornithologists, and expanding my horizons to Digital Humanities—embracing the nepantla space in between my disciplines and experiences.
