M Selim Yavuz deposited ‘My Body, a Funeral’: dark leisure activity and death reflections in death/doom and gothic/doom metal music in the group
Music and Sound on Humanities Commons 8 years, 9 months agoDeath/doom emerged as a subgenre in extreme metal music during 1990s mostly based in Yorkshire. Interestingly, these Yorkshire-based bands changed their style significantly to what is generally accepted as gothic/doom. This change also illustrates two different approaches to death in the music. While the early repertoire engages with the idea of…[Read more]

M Selim Yavuz deposited Doom metal and ways of remembering in popular music in the group
Music and Sound on Humanities Commons 8 years, 9 months agoOral history provides important sources of information when looking at the development of a particular genre of music. This idea becomes more pronounced when the genre of music in question may be tentatively considered a popular music. While one has to be careful in labelling a genre of music ‘popular’, in this case labelling extreme metal and mor…[Read more]

Nicky Agate replied to the topic How to post blogposts? Discussion or Doc? in the discussion
Feedback and Feature Requests on Humanities Commons 8 years, 9 months agoHi Andreas,
Thanks for the message! Creating a seamless way to provide feedback on items in CORE is most definitely on our roadmap, but we have some UX work to do before we get there. In the interim, I have a couple of suggestions:
1. Sharing something you upload with a group generates an activity record in that group’s /activity tab. You could…[Read more]

Andreas Wagner started the topic How to post blogposts? Discussion or Doc? in the discussion
Feedback and Feature Requests on Humanities Commons 8 years, 9 months agoHi all,
today I wanted to invite comments about a blog post of mine, but ended up being unsure of where to put this. At first I thought the post was a Doc (it’s a rather long and systematic blogpost) and tried to submit it to CORE, sharing it with the relevant Groups, but it appears CORE cannot ingest deposits referred to by URI only (no file, no…[Read more]

Stephen Llano deposited Beating Rhetoric: Rhetorical Theory in the Beat Generation in the group
Poetics and Poetry on Humanities Commons 8 years, 10 months agoThe beat generation has been examined as a social movement, literary period, and political statement from many different scholarly perspectives. Through the method of rhetorical criticism I tease out an implicit theory of rhetoric from the writings of the principal beat generation founders—namely Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac. Offering a r…[Read more]

John Edward Streamas deposited Five Poems in the group
Poetics and Poetry on Humanities Commons 8 years, 10 months agoMost of these poems are political, but all are ironic, and all intervene in our spaces for inhabiting time. Juxtapositions rule: native/alien, organic/synthetic, tragic/silly. But in every juxtaposition, no matter how many core items it contains, is a center that holds all items in orbit, and this center never really wants to hold, for all of…[Read more]

This panel examines the imbrication of the avant-garde with mass-produced art in order to discern the relationships between the proliferation of images and capitalism in the advent of modern visual culture. Imitating the shock value of advertising, the avant-gardists…[Read more]

Titus Stahl replied to the topic Sort publication list in profile according to categories in the discussion
Feedback and Feature Requests on Humanities Commons 8 years, 11 months agoThat’s also a good suggestion. In any case, this is what keeps me at this moment from uploading more documents to my profile. I have a lot of syllabi that I’d like to share, but if they’re mixed in between publications, I am afraid that this will just confuse visitors to my profile.
