About

I am a teacher and researcher of Christian history, with a focus on early Christian thought (PhD, Duke University, 2022). I am currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Early Christian Studies in the Department of Semitic and Egyptian Languages at the Catholic University of America. I specialize in intellectual history, eastern Christian literature of late antiquity (Greek, Syriac, Arabic, Coptic, Armenian), asceticism, and ancient philosophy & medicine. My dissertation examined how monastic leader Bābai the Great (ca. 551-628) developed East Syriac ideas about human nature in a time of controversy among Christians in the Sasanian Empire.

I recently Junior Fellow in Byzantine Studies at Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection in Washington, DC during the 2021-2022 year.

I also hold a M.T.S. in the History of Christianity from the University of Notre Dame and a B.A. in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead-Cain Scholar.
