Has anyone mentioned Michael Gorra’s “Portrait of a Novel”  (about Portrait of a Lady)?  Many of David Lodge’s academic novels introduce (and explain) literary history and theory, actually using theory as a plot element– “Small World” and “Nice Work,” for example.
