Sherman Clarke replied to the topic Links to Cataloging Exhibition Publications? in the discussion
Cataloging Section on ARLISNA Commons 3 years agoThanks, Alex. That link does find the two chapters that have been deposited. I tried to find them, pretending I had just heard that the CAC had posted a couple chapters of the revised CEP. I went to the CORE Repository link on the left margin, I picked ARLIS/NA Deposits. I searched “cataloging” and got all kinds of hits with catalog, catalogue,…[Read more]

Cataloging Section on ARLISNA Commons 3 years agoIn the SAC meeting today, Chloe asked when the Official RDA-compliant version of Cataloging exhibition publications would be released. I know a couple chapters of the revised CEP have been loaded to the Core repository here on Commons. Searching for them is not working. That is, a search of “cataloging exhibition publications” in the CORE…[Read more]

Sherman Clarke replied to the topic Work letters- when should they be used if you are cataloging an art book?! in the discussion
Cataloging Section on ARLISNA Commons 3 years agoA second or subsequent catalog by an artist should get A4 and date plus a work letter. I usually avoid using “a” which is generally reserved in LCC for reprints of resources. LCC table N6 gives you this basic instruction. The addition of the work letter is based on standard LC practice about dates in call numbers.
Some documentation that might be…[Read more]

Rachel Lara started the topic Work letters- when should they be used if you are cataloging an art book?! in the discussion
Cataloging Section on ARLISNA Commons 3 years agoHello and good afternoon, everyone! I am a new art metadata librarian and am in a need of some advice. A call number I created for an art catalog has already been used by LC for another catalog by the same artist. A colleague advised me to add a work letter to the end of the publication date, but I am uncertain if I should. If anyone has had a…[Read more]

ARLIS/NA Mid-Atlantic Chapter on ARLISNA Commons 3 years agoHello All,
A graphic design faculty member at GW would like students to view physical examples of type specimens (the typography kind, not the scientific kind). We don’t have many, so I’m wondering if any DC institutions have a substantial collection of them.
She says, “I am planning a type revival project, and thought it would be nice for the…[Read more]

Cataloging Section on ARLISNA Commons 3 years, 1 month agoScenario: I put on my user hat and think about searching a catalog/discovery interface for items on Lucio Fontana. I get a whole bunch of results so I think about filtering my results. If I checked “still image” or whatever they called 2D non-projectable graphics, I don’t think I’d expect to see books with pictures in them. Therefore, I do not use…[Read more]
