Chris Zarate replied to the topic "My Sites" menu option in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoThanks for pointing that out. We’re trying to simplify the choices up there, but there’s still more work to do. I think, ideally, it would simply take you to the Sites section of your profile. I’ll see what we can do.

Anna Strowe started the topic "My Sites" menu option in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoHi,
I’m having some trouble with the “My Sites” tab at the top of the page. If I hover the mouse, I get a drop-down with MLA Commons and the blog page I created, which is what I’d expect. I can click on either […]

Katina Rogers started the topic Permissions on docs in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoHi all,
I must be too nosey, because I keep clicking on docs that I don’t have permission to read. Perhaps it would be useful to have a label of some sort on items in the activity stream that are private to […]

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoWell, that’s definitely not right. Thanks so much for letting us know, Ryan.

Ryan Weberling started the topic Daily Digest for Group Activities in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoWires got crosses somewhere:
I set my preferences to receive a daily digest of activity for one of the groups I am a member of—the Beta Testers group, I believe. However, today I also received a daily digest for […] -
Chris Zarate started the topic "Documents" is now "Files" in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoIn order to avoid confusion between the “Documents” and “Docs” sections of groups, we’ve renamed “Documents” to “Files.” This should better reflect the functionality offered by each. “Files” is a place to upload […]

Kathleen Fitzpatrick replied to the topic New Topic Button in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoI think you may be right, Vimala; there’s going to be some difficulties until we can either make more clear where the forums actually are or just get everybody used to this system. I’ll keep pondering possible […]

Kathleen Fitzpatrick replied to the topic Ha! I disappeared my own blog! in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoHi, Vimala. I fixed that for you. What happened was that the theme you had briefly selected (one that actually isn’t supposed to be available networkwide, so thanks for letting me know about that!) has a default […]

Vimala C. Pasupathi started the topic New Topic Button in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoI have to admit that it took me longer than it should have to find the “New Topic” button. The relationship between the Forum and the Group home page wasn’t quite clear to me–maybe still isn’t–because the home […]

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month ago(UPDATE: I wrote the response below before I saw what Ryan said above [hi Ryan!]; we’re having the same problem. Creating a blog doesn’t make one the admin for that blog.)
So I tried to create a Blog within the […] -
Ryan Weberling replied to the topic Welcome, beta testers! in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoI had mentioned a couple of items as “Updates” rather than here in this forum, so I thought I’d also paste them below.
1. Creating a new site doesn’t lead to a login page, or at least not obviously. Trying to […] -

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoCreating a new site doesn’t lead to a login page, or at least not obviously. Trying to access the Dashboard through the menu responds ”You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page”—I had to type in the URL myself to access the login page.

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoWondering how it will work to search or browse Members at a large scale; any chance of filters or tags for interests, institutions, etc.?

Kathleen Fitzpatrick replied to the topic Welcome, beta testers! in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoThis is confusing, Lee! The Postcolonial Literature “site” refers to the group blog associated with the group Postcolonial Literature. By joining the group, you became an author on the blog; this is why it appears […]

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoSo, I have another question: I have apparently created a Postcolonial Literature site. Now, is this because I am a part of the Postcolonial Literature group? Because I really don’t remember creating a blog or […]

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoHi, all. Thanks for the comments! We’ve of course just gone into beta in the last couple of days, so we’re waiting to develop things like help files based on what our testers say that they need. So let us know — […]

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoOne thing that occurs to me so far is that profiles are kind of unsatisfying to fill out, especially compared to the way profiles work on Academia.edu. One way in which academics are different from other social […]

Ian Thomas replied to the topic Welcome, beta testers! in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoIf, like Lee said above, MLA Commons is geared toward scholars who are already using social media and are active bloggers (I’m not sure that’s true, but the beta testing group certainly is), then this site seems […]

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoI was wondering why all the blogs were empty of content, but when I created my own, I quickly found out why. We can create them, but then don’t have access to the dashboard to be administrators of the sites. Hence […]
