About

I am a marine invertebrate paleontologist who writes about the Galápagos Islands, Charles Darwin, the history of biological evolution, and the history of the California Academy of Sciences. In April 2017, I published “Collecting Evolution: The Galapagos Expedition that Vindicated Darwin” with Oxford University Press. I am currently writing about the 1958-1964 failure of the planned atomic power plant at Bodega Head in Sonoma County.
