Katina Rogers started the topic Crossover with DH2013? in the forum
Digital Humanities on MLA Commons 12 years, 11 months agoHi all,
I’m excited to be participating in DH2013, my first-ever DH conference. I’m sure many others are attending as well. I wonder if there are ways to create some useful crossover here with the conversations […]

I’d love to hear from others about this, too. In my current position, I have 20% research time, as do my colleagues; this means that Fridays are meeting-free with the intent of allowing everyone a day of focused research, writing, coding, etc. (depending on the project). It’s unlikely I’ll have this structure forever, though, so I’m curious to…[Read more]

Katina Rogers replied to the topic Coverage of Alt-Ac Sessions at MLA in the forum
Alt-Academics on MLA Commons 13 years agoGood idea, Brian; thanks for starting this.
Here are a couple of articles that are less squarely focused on the panels about alt-ac careers, but still relevant to this group:

That’s what I usually do, too. My slides aren’t particularly useful without some text to go along with them, but I know it’s unpleasant to be at the back of a room and unable to see what’s up on the screen. Not sure I’ll manage to post my own in advance this year, but something to think about for next year!

Katina Rogers started the topic Sessions of Interest to Alt-Academics at MLA13 in the forum
Alt-Academics on MLA Commons 13 years agoHi all, I don’t think I’ve seen a round-up of sessions related to alt-ac careers and concerns. Here are a few that have caught my eye; please add others that I may have missed!

As I look forward to heading to Boston this afternoon, I’m thinking about all the ways people might use this space during the convention itself. For instance, is anyone considering posting slides (or a link to slides) so that session attendees can follow along? Might be helpful for accessibility if people can’t easily see projected materials.

That’s an interesting idea. I typically post my presentations on my site after I’ve given them, but making it available during the presentation could be useful.

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoHi Kathleen,
If it’s an issue you’ve already addressed, I may have just been seeing residual crumbs from when the private materials were included in public spaces. I got to the links in a roundabout way—I […]

Katina Rogers started the topic Permissions on docs in the forum
Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoHi all,
I must be too nosey, because I keep clicking on docs that I don’t have permission to read. Perhaps it would be useful to have a label of some sort on items in the activity stream that are private to […]
