About
Kenneth Aiello is pursuing a Master’s in Biology and Society. In May of 2014 he graduated with a dual Bachelors of Science in Biology and Society and Sociology. Dr. Jane Maienschein introduced Kenneth to Biology and Society in the summer of 2012 as an avenue to explore unique research opportunities and work with world-renowned faculty. The Biology and Society undergraduate degree program exceeded his expectations in providing these opportunities and matched his goal of pursuing a career that deals with the intersection between science and society.
Additionally, during Kenneth’s undergraduate coursework he started working as a student researcher under Dr. Manfred Laubichler in the Digital Innovation Group. As a student researcher in Dr. Laubichler’s lab Kenneth learned skills that helped him further develop as a researcher and scientist. Further, these new skills helped open up exciting career paths, areas of study, and collaborations. During his last semester as an undergraduate Kenneth decided that he wanted to work on additional projects within the Biology and Society department.
With the direction of Dr. Maienschein and Dr. Laubichler, he is now pursuing a Master’s in Biology and Society. He is currently investigating how to use computational methods in an effort to establish the historical emergence of the concept of a microbiome. Kenneth is eager to continue exploring unique research opportunities, working with world-renowned faculty, and learning new as a Graduate student in Biology and Society program.
