Amazing chance to lead successful programs (the Praxis Program and the Graduate Fellows in Digital Humanities), work with an incredible team, and contribute to ongoing developments in graduate education. Following SCI’s recent meeting on authority & assessment in new modes of scholarly production, I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of beauty in scholarly work. Would love feedback as I develop the idea.

Digital Humanities on MLA Commons 12 years, 12 months agoHi all,
I’m excited to be participating in DH2013, my first-ever DH conference. I’m sure many others are attending as well. I wonder if there are ways to create some useful crossover here with the conversations […]

Alt-Academics on MLA Commons 13 years agoGood idea, Brian; thanks for starting this.
Here are a couple of articles that are less squarely focused on the panels about alt-ac careers, but still relevant to this group:

Alt-Academics on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoHi all, I don’t think I’ve seen a round-up of sessions related to alt-ac careers and concerns. Here are a few that have caught my eye; please add others that I may have missed!

As I look forward to heading to Boston this afternoon, I’m thinking about all the ways people might use this space during the convention itself. For instance, is anyone considering posting slides (or a link to slides) so that session attendees can follow along? Might be helpful for accessibility if people can’t easily see projected materials.
-
That’s an interesting idea. I typically post my presentations on my site after I’ve given them, but making it available during the presentation could be useful.
-
That’s what I usually do, too. My slides aren’t particularly useful without some text to go along with them, but I know it’s unpleasant to be at the back of a room and unable to see what’s up on the screen. Not sure I’ll manage to post my own in advance this year, but something to think about for next year!

Beta Testers on MLA Commons 13 years, 1 month agoHi all,
I must be too nosey, because I keep clicking on docs that I don’t have permission to read. Perhaps it would be useful to have a label of some sort on items in the activity stream that are private to […]
