Hey Leo!
I loved reading this post! As someone who grew up surrounded by music and a person who always has their headphones in listening to music – I love this idea! I dabbled in trying to edit my own music in GarageBand on Mac but I just had trouble figuring out all the different elements and how to use them properly so I kind of gave up. I…[Read more]

Hey April!
Oh my goodness I love your post! As someone who was initially studying to be a physician’s assistant, this was a very interesting read for me! I love the idea of having a network of doctors/physicians and having their studies available to the public. I have definitely fallen culprit in the past to falsely self-diagnosing myself with…[Read more]

Hi Shannon!
I absolutely loved your blog post! as a fellow deaf culture enthusiast, I do have to say reading this post was so comforting! I have a deaf cousin and my aunt taught me all about sign language and the deaf culture growing up and it was so surprising to me that there weren’t as many accommodations for them in society. It’s hard…[Read more]

Hey April!
I honestly couldn’t agree with you more! I think that the different platforms (social media vs a book) create two different tones. and have two different types of people publishing. I think that the people who are written in a book are usually more knowledgeable and can back their opinions with facts as compared to people on social…[Read more]

Hey Sara!
Oh my goodness I completely agree with you – I loved those readings as well! I think that in the last year there has been a large focus on the injustices against the black community in society today making these articles very relevant. I do have to say that I am personally not a big fan of Twitter because I’ve found that they censor a…[Read more]

Hello professor!
I think that Garbedo et al’s “Introduction to the Anthropocene” was right when they mentioned that reading about the Anthropocene on Twitter is different than perhaps reading about it in an article or a book. I agree with this because Twitter is a social media platform used by a wide variety of different people but it is not a…[Read more]

Hey Leo!
I loved reading your post and I completely agree with you here! I think that the public and the audience are to be defined as two separate entities. I think that the audience is who the work is tailored to and the public is just the general public with no criteria for specification amongst the mass group. I think that a lot of people…[Read more]

Hey Shannon!
I completely agree with you here. Since elementary school, I can still remember learning that you had to have a “hook” within your introduction to lure the reader into reading the rest of your work. For me personally, I hate reading scholarly articles with big fancy words just because it gets confusing and it could most definitely…[Read more]

Hey April!
Oh my goodness I loved reading this post! It’s so funny because in middle school I had so many friends that had Wattapad accounts and until a couple of years ago I had no idea what. it was for! Some of the stories that I’ve heard that are on that website are based around one direction or other celebrities in an intimate storyline. No…[Read more]

Hi Faith, oh god when I found out about THAT part of fan-fiction I was so shocked! I agree that content should be made towards people that have similar interested as the creator because this would definitely help them gain more following and it would help spread their message more broadly. Wattpad and sites like these are great for it, although…[Read more]

Hey Shannon!
I loved reading your post! This is really a topic that we are all aware of but no one really talks about. I remember as a child I would see someone in a wheelchair with no legs and I’d be confused so I would stare and quickly be yelled at by my mother saying “you’re being rude!” As a kid, it’s difficult to understand when you…[Read more]

Hello Professor!
I guess it depends on the circumstance and the privacy of the work being published. If the work was made to be public I think the audience is the public but if it’s private and you need to be granted access to access the author’s work then the audience and the public are separate. We most definitely can create a design and work…[Read more]

Faith,
You make a great point about keywords embedded in your project. Choosing searchable words (words that can be found easily by people who you want to reach online) to include in your project’s title or tags is definitely something to keep in mind when you come up with your project pitch for this class!

Hi Jen!
As a student, I view my personal and academic life totally separate from one another. I like to focus on school when I’m in class and then in my personal life I enjoy focusing on what I enjoy doing whether it’s making youtube videos or hanging out with friends. I think that Gregory is right in warning professors about overburdening…[Read more]-
Hey Faith!
I think I’ll have to agree with you on that online-workload issue we had these past semesters due to the pandemic. the work/home life line has gotten quite blurred now that we’re not travelling to class anymore. I feel like that was a big contributor to the professor mentality of “well you have more free-time so this extra work…[Read more]

Hi Faith!
I definitely agree that I consider my personal and academic life to be completely separate from one another, as we all should, in my opinion. I agree with you as well in bringing up the fact that Gregory is right in warning professors about overburdening their students with work outside of school hours because it is important to…[Read more]

Hi Leo!
I really loved reading your take on the idea of the public humanities being an issue of class status! I honestly didn’t think of it like that initially but now after reading your post, I couldn’t agree more! I think that you can honestly learn more by yourself by reading books and textbooks on your own and educating yourself as compared…[Read more]

Hey Sara!
I completely agree with what you’re saying about the concept of humanities being disconnected from the real world being false. I think that public humanities should be made public without restrictions so that other like-minded people can interact with this information. I also agree with your statement about accessibility vs…[Read more]

I’m going to be honest, I am a chemistry major so I do not necessarily fit into the category of “public humanist” but I’m going to do my best to dissuade the ivory tower argument as well as discuss why I think it is a valid analogy. From my perspective, I am not the most involved person when it comes to podcasts, blogs or any of the digital…[Read more]

Hi Faith!
I thought your post was very interesting and personal. I liked how you were able to connect it to your own experiences with being a part of a “clique” or not being a part of one, and honestly I fee like that is a great way to kind of look at what the ivory tower means. I you are a part of the group on social media where you are all…[Read more]

Hi Faith, I liked your view on the ivory tower concept, I think that a lot of time people people find it easier to make judgements about something, in this case academia, than it is to try and join at the risk of failing. Also, I think that cliques operate in a very similar way, a lot of the time they are formed around a certain topic like sports…[Read more]

Hey Caitlyn!
My definition of digital public humanities is having a group of people who have similar interests and the primary focus is an exchange of useful information for one’s enjoyment. Well said! I love the “interconnection” of the digital publuc humaities as well especially at this time where we’ve kind of lost touch with one another physically we can still connect virtually. Hi Faith!
I completely agree with you! Twitter is almost like giving the public free range over what they decide to post on there as opposed to a book or scholarly journal which is usually written by, well scholars, and reviewed and edited several times before putting it out into the world. I also like your point on how Twitter has such a diverse…[Read more]
