Sara Santos replied to the topic Challenge #6: Reflect and Plan (8/6-8/19) in the discussion
Humanities Commons Summer Camp on Humanities Commons 7 years, 5 months agoHello everyone! Like Charlie, I took this challenge as an opportunity to write a little bit about my experience doing this summer camp and my plans for my website/overall digital presence going forward. I tried to answer all of the questions in the challenge, albeit in a slightly different order. You can read it here.
Thanks again to Caitlin for…[Read more]

Sara Santos deposited History Without Memory: The Memorialization of the Parsley Massacre in Edwidge Danticat’s The Farming of Bones in the group
Postcolonial Studies on Humanities Commons 7 years, 5 months agoThis paper argues that in The Farming of Bones, Edwidge Danticat seeks to historicize and memorialize the Parsley Massacre through the reframing of the historical event through Amabelle Désir’s fictional account. Through the conflation of historical artifact and literary imagination, the novel narrates, and therefore produces, a collective me…[Read more]

Sara Santos replied to the topic Challenge #5: Sites 2.0 (7/23-8/5) in the discussion
Humanities Commons Summer Camp on Humanities Commons 7 years, 5 months agoHello everyone!
I’ve spent the last couple of weeks playing around with the website and trying out some of the plugins and widgets that HC WordPress offers, and added some to my website. I found the Creative Commons configurator very helpful in figuring out the different levels of protection/sharing in OA works, and I might use it in the future.…[Read more] -

Sara Santos replied to the topic Challenge #4: Sites (7/9-22) in the discussion
Humanities Commons Summer Camp on Humanities Commons 7 years, 6 months agoI just created a site! You can find it here. As you can tell, it’s still very much a bare-bones structure, and my only post is an introductory one (nothing much new besides a link to what I think is the funniest Zizek “lecture” to date). I found the examples linked in the challenge really helpful, as they gave me a sense of what scholars are using…[Read more]

Marissa K. López replied to the topic Advanced Mini Challenge #3: Altmetric in the discussion
Humanities Commons Summer Camp on Humanities Commons 7 years, 6 months agoWell … I tried it, but it was depressing. A lot of my articles are with journals that don’t assign DOIs, so nothing is generating buzz. And the one that I did check had 1 tweet, from MLA from when I deposited it in CORE a few years ago. I’m not sure I want to put a badge on my personal website advertising that.
On the positive side, I can see…[Read more]

Sara Santos replied to the topic Advanced Mini Challenge #3: Altmetric in the discussion
Humanities Commons Summer Camp on Humanities Commons 7 years, 6 months agoThese tools are extremely helpful! I experimented a little bit with the Altmetric bookmarklet on a few articles to see what scholars in my area of interest are saying about those articles/subjects. I found the demographic and geographical breakdown particularly interesting, because it made me much more aware of who might be reading my own work.…[Read more]

Sara Santos replied to the topic Challenge #3: CORE (6/25-7/8) in the discussion
Humanities Commons Summer Camp on Humanities Commons 7 years, 7 months agoI echo Dana’s comment! This challenge really helped me figure out what kinds of resources are available in the H Commons repository, as well as how to find resources best suited to my research. To complete the challenge, I decided to look up articles related to my dissertation topic. At first, I wasn’t finding much, but I think it’s because I…[Read more]

Joelle Mann replied to the topic Challenge #2: Networking (6/11-24) in the discussion
Humanities Commons Summer Camp on Humanities Commons 7 years, 7 months agoHi everyone,
Happy Friday! I joined several new groups: Comics Scholarship/Comics Studies, Narrative theory and Narratology, Autofiction, and Neoliberal Fiction (thanks @sarastarbucksantos). I started threads in two of the groups based on what I’m currently working on (both having to do with voice and co-mix). I also tried to join groups that…[Read more]

Joelle Mann started the topic co-mix and voice in the discussion
Comics Scholarship/Comics Studies on Humanities Commons 7 years, 7 months agoHi everyone,
I am looking for suggestions that investigate narratology or forms of voice in co-mix. Any suggestions of crucial readings are appreciated!
Thanks!

Joelle Mann started the topic Voice in the discussion
Narrative theory and Narratology on Humanities Commons 7 years, 7 months agoHi everyone,
I’m in the process of writing about “the historical voice” (specifically in historical metafiction about diasporas). Any text suggestions that extend beyond Hayden White and Linda Hutcheon?
Thanks!

Sara Santos replied to the topic Advanced Mini Challenge #2: Creating a Group on Humanities Commons in the discussion
Humanities Commons Summer Camp on Humanities Commons 7 years, 7 months agoI took on the mini challenge and created a new group titled “Neoliberal Fiction.” As with many of the campers, I initially struggled to find groups specifically tailored to my fields of interest, specifically neoliberalism and its connections with literature and culture. Part of my dissertation project has to do with tracing the emerging genre of…[Read more]
