LLC 20th- and 21st-Century American on MLA Commons 8 years, 5 months agoThis chapter argues that the sexy librarian stereotype emerged at the end of the twentieth century from the confluence between sexual liberation, free speech movements and print pornography. It focuses on a series of librarian themed pornographic paperbacks published in the 1970s and 1980s by Greenleaf Classics. These stories, although flimsy…[Read more]

Christoph Imscher deposited “Listening to Eliot’s Thrush” in the group
Poetics and Poetry on Humanities Commons 8 years, 5 months agoThe essay takes a fresh look at Eliot’s ‘water-dripping song’ in The Waste Land. It seems impossible for the ornithologically minded Eliot not to have known that the hermit thrush’s song does not sound like dripping water. In fact, nowhere in ornithological writing — and certainly not in his source, Chapman’s Handbook of North American Birds —…[Read more]

Cognitivists have identified empathy as a key emotion that explains why humans behave pro-socially. There is now evidence to suggest empathy as not only a key ingredient of altruism and cooperation, but also a…[Read more]

It’s been long since you talked to me. I wish you all the best on your book-proposal. Now I am working on a topic which you may find hihgly interesting. Twentieth-Century American Literature on MLA Commons 8 years, 7 months agoNow I am working on a new topic. It is on the exploration into the question as to whether some post-9/11 poems on Afganistan in An Eye For An Eye Makes the Whole World Blind, like “The Weavers”, “Burqa Women” and “Kabul 2002”, can be read as an implicit response to Orientalism by Edward Said. Please, comment on it.
