    About

I am a Ph.d. candidate in Ethnomusicology at Cornell University where I am writing my dissertation on reality music television shows, musical careers, and youth subjectivity in (neo)liberalizing India. I am also currently teaching a course on “Reality music television shows in an age of global culture” as part of Cornell’s First-year Writing Seminar Program. My concurrent research interests include the rise of YouTube as a musical platform in India, and questions of gendered embodiment in relation to performance. I am a violinist and singer in a range of genres, and I organize and blog for Badalja.com, a new site dedicated to gender activism in Mumbai.
