Allan Savage deposited Secular Polity at Vatican II in the group
Philosophy on Humanities Commons 3 years, 11 months ago This article concludes with the following observations. First, there is a demonstrable shift from monarchical government to democratic governance in the Church as a product of the evolution of ecclesial polity. But it must be acknowledged the secular polity is incompatible with divinely inspired government as is most evident from a phenomenological philosophical perspective. Secondly, from this same perspective, it appears that the traditional monarchical understanding of the Church’s presence in a future world will not be sustainable. That is to say that, ironically, the Church’s polity may “evolve” to its previous pre-Constantinian status and engage life alongside political organizations fashioned through humanitarian values.
