About

I earned my M.A. in English at California Sate University, Long Beach (2008) and am currently scheduled to complete my PhD in English at NIU in May, 2017. I have been teaching courses in English and the Humanities since 2011 and was an academic advisor from 2008-2013.

Currently, I teach Developmental Writing, First Year Composition, and Writing Across the Curriculum as a Graduate TA at NIU. In addition, I teach developmental writing, composition, and literature at Elgin Community College (ECC).

My major fields are American Literature 1860-Present and LGBT Studies. In addition, I have earned a graduate research tool in Literary Theory & Criticism and a second language proficiency in Spanish.

In 2014, I was elected as an Officer of the English Graduate Studies Association (EGSA) and was asked to serve on Northern Illinois University’s Presidential Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (PCSOGI) and the Academic Diversity Programs Advisory Committee (ADPAC).

    I currently have two articles under consideration and am completing my dissertation, which will be queried to subject-specific publishers. 

    Recently, I gave a lecture on the effectiveness of student reflective writing as a metacognitive tool for comprehension and development in writing across the curriculum (ECC 2017).
