We are a group of academics who are interested in bringing the issues of the world into our classrooms, conferences, and journals; in finding common ground in our lives as academics, musicians, and human beings; and in using our positions of power to speak up for those who have less. Our members are interested in a range of issues around diversity, social justice, environment, disability, gender, race, and more. What unites us is a passion for bringing these issues into our teaching, research, and professional activities.

      Hi all!

I’m writing with our interest group meeting agenda. This meeting will include a recruitment call for a Chair (or Co-Chairs!) to serve for Jan. 2024 – Jan. 2026 followed by three 10-minute lightning talks with discussion periods between each talk.We will offer a hybrid option for those not attending the conference in person:

This is the RSVP form for the hybrid Scholars for Social Responsibility Interest Group Meeting happening on Saturday, November 11th from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM in Governor’s Sq. 11 at the 2023 AMS/SMT Joint Annual Meeting. If you plan on attending on Zoom, please complete the RSVP before Friday, November 10th.

      Meeting Description

The SSRIG aims to think about how a sense of responsibility has shaped and continues to shape the field of music theory. Responsibility looks and feels different for music theory community members depending on our identities, career goals, and where we are in our careers and lives. This meeting creates a space for music theory scholars to share experiences, reflect on our discipline, and connect with scholars in our community to collectively increase equity in music theory scholarship.

Agenda (All times are in Mountain Daylight Time. The Meeting will begin at 9:30 EDT/8:30 CDT/7:30 MDT/6:30 PDT.)

      7:30 – 7:45 Business Meeting

7:45 – 8:05 [Name withheld] – “True to Yourself: Responsible advocacy for self and others” / 10 minute breakout discussion

We hope to see you on Zoom or in Denver!

      Take care,

Sara Bowden (on behalf of the 2023 SSRIG Program Committee)
