The Society for Music Theory’s Autographs and Archival Documents Interest Group promotes scholarship that relies on sketches and other archival documents for analysis. We also support the creation of courses on this topic. This interest group was inaugurated at the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Society for Music Theory in Vancouver. Patricia Hall was the founding chair. The current co-chairs of the group are Laura Emmery and Áine Heneghan.

Dear colleagues,We hope you are having a wonderful summer. Danny Jenkins and I have been making plans for the Autographs and Archival Documents Interest Group (AADIG) meeting this fall in New Orleans. On the morning of Thursday, November 10 we are considering a field trip to Tulane University to visit the Hogan Archive of New Orleans Music and New Orleans Jazz. Here’s the notice that we would like to share with the SMT community:Field Trip: The Hogan Archive of New Orleans Music and New Orleans Jazz, Tulane University Special CollectionsLearn about the Hogan Archive, which supports the research of New Orleans music and culture of the late 19th and 20th centuries forward. Hogan Archive curator Melissa A. Weber will lead the session, giving visitors the opportunity to handle and discuss rare, archival, primary source materials.Location: Louis Prima Room, Jones Hall, Tulane University Special CollectionsThis event would take place on Thursday morning (Nov. 10), before the first session. Danny and I both would like to attend, but we unfortunately have SMT obligations that prevent us from going on the field trip. Before we go through with scheduling this event, we would like to know how many of the members of the AADIG would be interested in this field trip. If there isn’t enough interest or members are not free at that time, then we would forgo the trip. Please know that we did ask Melissa to make a presentation during our meeting time, but she has a strong preference for having scholars visit the archive instead. It will take about 45 minutes by public transportation to Tulane (one way), and the special session led by Melissa will be an hour or 90 minutes. We can likely schedule the visit for 10:00 a.m. or perhaps a little later. This will give everyone time to grab lunch and make it back to the conference site for 2:00 p.m. paper sessions. Please let Danny and I know by August 31, 2022 if you might be able to go on the field trip to Tulane University. We also wanted to let you know that because of the field trip, we were planning to use our meeting time for some informal sharing of research rather than formal talks. However we choose to share research during our meeting, we do have some business we need to discuss, details of which are forthcoming. With best wishes,Philip Stoecker <philip.s.stoecker@hofstra.edu>Danny Jenkins <jenkins.danny@gmail.com>
