The Post-1945 Music Analysis Interest Group is a discursive space for scholars of music after 1945, with an emphasis on the modernist, experimental, and avant-garde. Through its annual meetings and online communications, the group aims to strengthen, support, and develop its members’ ideas and sense of community. It also seeks to bring attention to and foster scholarship on post-1945 music both within the Society for Music Theory and in music scholarship at large.

Thank you, all, for your comments regarding the IG’s bylaws and for your participation in our survey.
      Here are the main takeaways:

      • Bylaws were ratified on December 15, 2020 (by 11 votes, which is 15% of the current membership).  If necessary, we can adjust/amend the wording at the next year’s business  meeting. You can find the document on our HC page (under Docs).
      • For the 2021 meeting, Tara and I are organizing a workshop with a focus on diversifying post-tonal music pedagogy. We will have more information soon!
      • By early summer, and after a group discussion, we will solicit topics for a special session for the 2022 meeting.
      • There was enthusiasm for the best student paper award to be introduced in the near future (perhaps at the 2022 meeting). We will revisit this topic at the next business meeting.

      Laura (and Tara)
