The Post-1945 Music Analysis Interest Group is a discursive space for scholars of music after 1945, with an emphasis on the modernist, experimental, and avant-garde. Through its annual meetings and online communications, the group aims to strengthen, support, and develop its members’ ideas and sense of community. It also seeks to bring attention to and foster scholarship on post-1945 music both within the Society for Music Theory and in music scholarship at large.

Members of this group ought to be interested in the SMT poster session 20th/21st-Century Compositional Strategies taking place this coming Thurs, Nov. 4 at 2:30 EST. There are presentations on Guoping Jia, Ligeti, Stockhausen, Messiaen, Lutoslowski etc. Accessible here.

Besides the SMT access, I have also made my own presentation (a 33-minute video on Stockhausen’s Refrain) available on vimeo https://vimeo.com/fluxations/refrain  with password: smt

It’s chock-full of new material never disclosed before, not by Stockhausen or anyone else. It’s a fascinating piece, which I first analyzed over 20 years ago and presented some of that analysis then. The analysis is much fuller and richer now. Best to watch at full-screen. Enjoy !
