The Post-1945 Music Analysis Interest Group is a discursive space for scholars of music after 1945, with an emphasis on the modernist, experimental, and avant-garde. Through its annual meetings and online communications, the group aims to strengthen, support, and develop its members’ ideas and sense of community. It also seeks to bring attention to and foster scholarship on post-1945 music both within the Society for Music Theory and in music scholarship at large.

      Dear Post-1945 IG:

We are delighted to announce a collaborative effort with AMS’s Cold War Study Group at the 2020 joint AMS/SMT conference in Minneapolis. Together our two groups will sponsor a special session of lightning talks, “Mediating the Cold War.” Please see the CFP (posted in a separate announcement) and consider applying or passing it on to others! Because we will use the CWSG’s guaranteed slot on the program for the paper session, that leaves our normal Friday lunchtime meeting slot open. We are planning to arrange a social hour with snacks for both groups so that we can extend our partnership to more informal conversation. We will also hold our Business Meeting during the last 15–20 min of the event. We will have more information about all of this before the conference.

Thanks to many of you for participating in our recent survey. We have read and considered your suggestions and appreciate offers to help. Please stay tuned for other announcements about new IG initiatives, and as always, feel free to reach out to us if you’d like to be more involved.

      Best,

      Tara and Laura
