THE BARD DIDN’T JUST WRITE DRAMA, HE LIVED IT

The Bard and the Barman sheds new light on William Shakespeare’s “lost years, based on the dubious account of a barman who served as the Bard’s confidant in London.  Shakespeare’s formative years in France are recounted, including his friendship with the future king of France, Henri IV, who inspired Love’s Labour’s Lost and the missing sequel.  Thank goodness that the rather foolish but observant barman took it upon himself to follow in the footsteps of Plutarch, recording the Bard’s confessions for posterity.

      ABOUT THE AUTHOR

With a M.A. in Counseling Psychology, Merrill Hatlen spent his professional life in social services and public health, balanced by his involvement in filmmaking, photography, and writing; he paid his dues by typing his first novel on a manual Smith Corona. The course of his life was altered by spending three years in France, inspiring five novels, two screenplays, and a stage play (intended as a sequel to the Bard’s Love’s Labor Lost). World travelers since an extended honeymoon in Europe, he and his wife have ventured as far as Greece, Morocco and China.
