      AUPresses Webinar: Unpacking the Open Access Impact on Print Book Sales

      In September, Ithaka S+R and the Association of University Presses published the report “Print Revenue and Open Access Monographs: A University Press Study,” as well as its affiliated data set. Join authors of the study during OA Week 2023 to discuss the findings in this report, and share ideas about how university presses can use the information to develop sustainable OA monograph publishing solutions. This research was funded by a Level I Digital Humanities Advancement Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

      Panelists

      Laura Brown, Senior Advisor, Ithaka S+R: Brown has previously held a number of leadership roles at both ITHAKA including as Managing Director of JSTOR. Prior to joining ITHAKA, she was the president of Oxford University Press, USA.

      Roger Schonfeld, Vice President, Libraries, Scholarly Communication, and Museums, Ithaka S+R: Prior to joining Ithaka’s research programs, Schonfeld served as a research associate at the the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. A regular blogger for Scholarly Kitchen, he also serves on the board of the Center for Research Libraries.

      John Sherer, Spangler Family Director, University of North Carolina Press: Sherer has served as UNC Press Director and President of Longleaf Services since 2012. He currently serves on the board of AUPresses. Before that, he served as Publisher of Basic Books and was adjunct professor at the NYU School for Continuing and Professional Studies.

      Erich Van Rijn, Director, University of California Press: Van Rijn has been with California since 1997, holding roles in journals and open access, marketing, sales, operations, and information technology. Van Rijn also served as the AUPresses Open Access Task Force Chair, 2020-2022, leading to the formation of the permanent OA Committee.
