      The program for the upcoming symposium and workshop, “Music Industry Data in Action,” is now available!

      Thursday at 13:00 Eastern I will be hosting a small, one-hour symposium highlighting some of the practical ways that scholars are currently using music industry data (record charts, song and artist revenues, etc) in their research. Andrew Ullah will present “Deconstructing the Billboard Hot 100,” on song attributes of top 40s and how they correlate with commercial success, and Mathew Flynn will present a pedagogy of data in MA music industry curricula.       After the guest speakers, we will have a practical workshop on using the platform that we publish, MusicID. You can learn more about the platform on our website, but in short we are an unparalleled digital humanities resource, archiving record charts since 1950 in a centralized, searchable database, which can be exported to CSV for analysis. As a relatively new platform, we want to help scholars and industry professionals understand what we do and how you can use the data we archive. Please join our workshop Thursday for an excellent opportunity to obtain guidance in using the software. All attendees will have access to the platform until July 1 so that you may have the opportunity to use it for yourselves.
