      Dear MSA members,

Some of you may have heard me mention at the Adelaide conference in December that Australia was very close to the required number of members of the International Musicological Society (IMS) that would give us a place on the IMS Directorium.

I was informed yesterday that the number of members is now 32 following a few new subscriptions recently received, two above the required number. If this number is maintained (30 is the threshold) we will be able to elect an Australian representative to the IMS Directorium.

Until now, the Australians who have served on the Directorium until now have been Directors-at-large, not national representatives, but candidates nominated by the IMS at its discretion. These have been Andrew McCredie, Margaret Kartomi, Jane Hardie and myself.

Having close ties with the IMS is of great benefit to musicology in Australia.

      Best wishes to all,

      John Griffiths
      Vice President
      IMS
