Thanks for joining the “Accessible Writing and Publishing in the Humanities” group! I’m Cara, an academic editor trained in art history. Both my professional and academic tracks converge on one theme: making academic writing more accessible to a broader audience outside of our subject-area silos.

I now run an editorial agency and publishing house, Flatpage, where I work alongside a group of freelance editors to help authors communicate with audiences. But I’m also interested in how scholars can communicate with each other (in and out of their own disciplines), journal editors can promote work with a broader readership/applicability, and how the field of publishing can be expanded to encourage the dissemination of our ideas outside of the academy. I hope you’ll join me here to discuss these issues, and more.

      • Authors might pose questions about the writing/publishing process and receive feedback from one another.
      • Publishers might give guidance and transparency on their processes.
      • Editors can post the resources they provide authors.

Through our discussions, I hope that we can make the world of publishing a more inviting and hospitable place for us all to engage!

If you’re looking for more resources, check out my blog, Column, which includes lots of posts about writing, editing, and publishing in the humanities.
