Ian Willis deposited Camden Teamsters Memorial, when the horse was king on the Yerranderie Road in the group
Place Studies on Humanities Commons 2 years ago This blog post tells the story behind the Camden Teamsters Memorial in John Street, Camden, NSW.
The memorial is a tribute to the teamsters, bullockies and carriage drivers who travelled the Yerranderie Road between the mining town of Yerranderie and Camden through the Burragorang Valley.
The memorial has a rear wheel from a flat-top wagon, a front axle and two wheel hubs. These are mounted in a steel frame set into a concrete base. There are three metal information boards with a decorative sign attached to the top section of the wheel.
The memorial was opened in April 1977 by Mrs Jean McCubbin, a teamster’s widow, and constructed and donated to the Camden community by former teamster Eric Henderson on Ungarie NSW.
