learners during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on their challenges, resilience,
and the support needed to sustain their education. The participants of the study
were the 13 ALS learners chosen through a purposive sampling. This study
utilized qualitative type of research utilizing phenomenology using thematic
analysis of participant responses, several key themes emerge. Theme 1:
Resilience and Adaptability, Theme 2: Stigmatization and Social Isolation, Theme
3: Family Health Struggles and Resilience, Theme 4: Fear and Vulnerability in the
Absence of Vaccination Theme 5: Community and Government Support in Times
of Crisis. Theme 6: Challenges in Distance Learning and Learning Activity Sheets.
The coping mechanisms they employed posited three emerging themes: Theme
1: Control the Budget, Theme 2: Taking Care of One’s Health and Theme 3:
Adherence to the Government’s Order. As to the support needed, they cited the
following Theme 1: Digital Access as a Vital Support for ALS During the Pandemic,
Theme 2: Access to Internet Connection and theme 3: Assistance in Answering
the Required Modules. The following recommendations are gathered where
education authorities, policymakers, and community leaders can work together
to create a more inclusive, supportive, and resilient educational environment for
ALS learners, ensuring that they have the necessary resources and assistance to
overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic and continue their educational
journeys.
