Music in Évora studies on Humanities Commons 2 years, 2 months ago In 1619 King Philip III (II of Portugal) made a visit to the city of Évora part of his journey through Portugal. He remained there for several days receiving the Senate members as well as other important institutions of the city such of the Inquisition and the main religious authorities. The King also visited the Jesuit College and other religious houses including the feminine Convent of Calvário. This text examines the visit of the King to the Convent of Calvário and the soundscape the involved this visit, focusing on the music performed there.
