I’m pausing for a moment to express my love and solidarity with all the faculty, students and staff of #MichiganStateUniversity. I taught almost 30 years at a Big Ten university where the doors were always open because it was a public learning space. Did I worry about the possibility of ever having an active shooter on campus? Yes, ever since #VirginiaTech. Even though OSU and MSU are large institutions, each campus is tightly knit in its own way and the universities are closely interconnected through our cohort network.
